Anthony Chen's "We Are All Strangers," a film that achieved a historic milestone as the first Singaporean entry in the Berlinale Competition, has secured distribution rights for the U.S. and Canada with Film Movement. This acquisition comes ahead of the film's opening night debut at the 50th Hong Kong Film Festival on April 1.
"We Are All Strangers" is the concluding chapter of Chen's "Growing Up" trilogy, following "Ilo Ilo" and "Wet Season." Set in contemporary Singapore, the film revisits actors Yeo Yann Yann and Koh Jia Ler, exploring generational dynamics.
Film Movement plans a theatrical release for the film, a move that echoes their previous distribution of Chen's acclaimed debut, "Ilo Ilo." This latest deal adds to a series of international sales, with "We Are All Strangers" also sold to territories including Germany, Austria, and France, among others.
The film was produced by Giraffe Pictures with support from various production companies and funds, including the Singapore Film Commission and the Red Sea Fund.
