In November 2025, it was announced that acclaimed novelist Anne Rice's 1982 novel 'Cry to Heaven' is set to be adapted for the screen. Rice, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 80, was one of the most popular fantasy writers of all time, having published over 40 novels that sold some 135 million copies during her prolific career.
Rice's 'Cry to Heaven' novel centers on a Venetian noble and a maestro castrato as they navigate the competitive world of opera. The author's works have been widely adapted for film and television, including the 1994 movie 'Interview With the Vampire' starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, as well as adaptations of 'Exit to Eden' and 'Queen of the Damned.'
The upcoming 'Cry to Heaven' adaptation is currently in pre-production in London and Rome, with filming set to begin in mid-January 2026. The project is being produced by Ford through his Fade To Black production banner, and is expected to be released in the autumn of 2026. Ford's previous directorial efforts include the Oscar-nominated 'A Single Man' and the critically acclaimed 'Nocturnal Animals.'
