Anna Sawai is thrilled to embody Japanese music legend Yoko Ono in filmmaker Sam Mendes' forthcoming four-part cinematic event centered on the British band The Beatles. Sawai described Ono as an "incredible artist" and emphasized the personal significance of portraying a musician's life story.
"It's just exciting because her story is so inspirational to me, and people really don't know the true person that she was," Sawai stated in a recent interview. She highlighted Ono's bold independence, noting that she became an easy target for public criticism. Sawai feels it is crucial to share Ono's narrative and celebrate her strength.
The project, titled "The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event," will feature Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. The series aims to chronicle the iconic band's journey, formed in 1960, through four distinct films, each narrated from the perspective of one of its members. The Beatles disbanded in 1970. Sawai is also slated to appear in "How to Rob a Bank," releasing in September.
