A significant collection of outfits and memorabilia from Hollywood legend Ann-Margret is scheduled for auction at Julien's Auctions in California on June 23. Leading the sale is a notable black satin and nude silk gown, designed by Bob Mackie. This exquisite dress was first worn by Ann-Margret herself when she presented at the 49th annual Academy Awards in 1977. More recently, pop star Sabrina Carpenter donned the same gown for Dame Anna Wintour's Met Gala dinner earlier this year, and for her rehearsal with Stevie Nicks.
This iconic gown is anticipated to achieve up to $3,000 at auction. The collection also features other memorable pieces from Ann-Margret's career. Among them is a silk jersey dress with clear sequins and a peach overlay gown, worn when she presented the 52nd annual Academy Awards in 1980, with an estimated value up to $3,000. Additionally, a dress worn by Ann-Margret when she received a Golden Globe for her role in the 1975 film Tommy is expected to sell for around $2,000.
Further items include a silk jersey period gown from her acclaimed 1984 television role as Blanche DuBois in 'A Streetcar Named Desire,' potentially fetching between $600 and $800. An American flag-patterned leotard costume, worn during a musical performance for President Gerald Ford's state dinner honoring the Shah of Iran, is estimated between $1,000 and $2,000. Other notable items include a fur coat from the 1975 premiere of 'Tommy' and her personal scripts for films like 'Pocketful Of Miracles' and 'Bye Bye Birdie.'
The auction also includes Ann-Margret's custom-painted 1997 Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle, with an estimated price of $10,000 to $15,000. Jewelry, stage-worn bodysuits, and a brown silk gown and jacket worn by Elizabeth Courtney on 'The Tonight Show' in 1975 are also part of the extensive sale. Bidding will be available online, by phone, in person, or via absentee bid.
