- Shah Rukh Khan's villainous character was conceived as a misguided hero.

The film 'Anjaam', starring Madhuri Dixit Nene, Shah Rukh Khan, and Deepak Tijori, has completed 32 years since its release. Veteran writer Rumy Jafry, who penned the dialogues, shared behind-the-scenes details in a recent interview.
Jafry disclosed that he envisioned Amitabh Bachchan while writing dialogues for Madhuri Dixit's character in the film's second half, where she embraces a revenge-driven persona. He also expressed his strong belief that Madhuri Dixit merited an award for her role in 'Anjaam' that year, instead of for 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!', which ultimately won her the accolade.
Regarding Shah Rukh Khan's portrayal of the antagonist Vijay Agnihotri, Jafry explained that he did not perceive the character as a pure villain. Instead, he viewed Vijay as a negative character whose intense feelings for Madhuri's character were expressed through inappropriate actions. Jafry highlighted Khan's cultured demeanor and shared a pleasant working relationship.
The film's graphic violence, ahead of its time, drew criticism. Jafry recalled specific scenes that shocked audiences then but are now more common. To balance the intensity, he subsequently worked on lighter films like 'Waqt Humara Hai'. Jafry also credited Rishi Kapoor for his role in connecting him with director Rahul Rawail for 'Anjaam'.
