Veteran actress Anita Dobson, celebrated for her iconic role as Angie Watts in EastEnders, is returning to television for a guest appearance on the Channel 5 crime drama, The Good Ship Murder. Dobson, who debuted as Angie Watts in the very first EastEnders episode in 1985, portrayed the landlady of The Queen Vic. Her character's tumultuous marriage to 'Dirty' Den Watts culminated in a Christmas Day 1986 divorce, which became the most-watched soap episode ever.
Angie Watts departed Albert Square in 1988 and her character later died off-screen in 2002 due to cirrhosis of the liver. She made a brief spectral appearance during EastEnders' 40th-anniversary episode in the previous year. Now, Dobson is slated to appear in the fourth season of The Good Ship Murder, with filming locations set in Malta.
The crime drama, which premiered in October 2023, features Coronation Street actors Shayne Ward and Catherine Tyldesley. Ward plays a former detective turned cruise ship entertainer, while Tyldesley portrays a First Officer. Together, they solve murders amidst developing romantic entanglements. The upcoming fourth season was confirmed earlier this year, though Tyldesley is reportedly set to depart after this season.
