Andy Serkis has officially confirmed his participation in DC Studios' forthcoming film, The Batman II. Serkis indicated that while he won't be joining The Batman II immediately, he expects to be on set by the end of the current year. He will join a star-studded cast that includes Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Batman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Scarlett Johansson, and Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent. The success of the first The Batman film, which grossed over $772 million worldwide, led to an HBO Max series, The Penguin, that garnered significant critical acclaim and awards.
The initial film, The Batman, marked Warner Bros.' return to exclusive theatrical releases following their 'Popcorn Project' experiment during the COVID-19 pandemic. It achieved a domestic opening of $134 million and a total domestic gross of $369.8 million. The subsequent series, The Penguin, received nine Emmy Awards, including an acting award for Cristin Milioti, further cementing the franchise's impact.
