9 Feb
Summary
- Andy Samberg impersonates Neil Diamond in a mayonnaise commercial.
- The ad features a parody of 'Sweet Caroline' promoting Hellmann's.
- Samberg's character proposes to Elle Fanning, who rejects him.

During this year's Super Bowl, Andy Samberg appeared in an unexpected commercial for Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise. The Saturday Night Live alum portrayed 'Meal Diamond,' a character who lovingly sang a parody of Neil Diamond's 'Sweet Caroline' to promote the mayonnaise.
The extended version of the ad showed Samberg's character interacting with restaurant patrons and sandwiches, with lyrics expressing his devotion to the condiment. He declared his love for Hellmann's, even singing, 'Sweet sandwich time/Hellmann's makes it taste so good.'
The commercial took a peculiar turn when Samberg's character proposed to Elle Fanning's character, exclaiming, 'If you marry me, the curse is broken and I can leave!' Fanning's character declined his proposal, but Samberg celebrated what he perceived as a victory as the ad concluded.
This unexpected Super Bowl appearance comes after the music drama 'Song Sung Blue,' which focused on Neil Diamond tribute artists. Kate Hudson, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in the drama, was also mentioned in relation to the film.
