Summary
- Andrew Tierney's alcohol struggle continues after a decade.
- He relapsed during a 2021 Australian tour, caught by his brother.
- Tierney admits he's an alcoholic, struggling to stop after one drink.

Andrew Tierney, a member of the band Human Nature, has disclosed his ongoing struggle with alcohol, a decade after first attempting to quit. The 51-year-old performer shared on the Mental As Anyone podcast that he 'fell off the wagon' during a tour in Australia five years ago, in 2021.
During this relapse, Tierney admitted to smuggling vodka backstage, leading to a confrontation with his brother and bandmate, Mike Tierney. Reflecting on the incident, Andrew described it as "stupid, childish, and immature." He noted that while he had previously achieved sobriety eight years prior, his journey hasn't been a 'clean run.'
Tierney, based in Las Vegas, confirmed he identifies as an alcoholic, explaining that if he drinks, he struggles to stop at just one. He has occasionally had a drink since his 2021 relapse but not for some time. Previously, in 2018, he detailed how alcohol initially helped with performance anxiety but evolved into a significant problem.
Human Nature, formed in 1989, achieved triple platinum status with their 1996 debut album and became a Las Vegas fixture. The group was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2019. Andrew Tierney married Heather in 1999, and they have a daughter, Violette, born in 2016.
