Ananya Panday's Dance Sparks Bharatanatyam Debate

Ananya Panday recently encountered widespread criticism following the release of a video clip featuring her Bharatanatyam fusion dance from the film 'Chand Mera Dil.' The performance, which combined classical Bharatanatyam with contemporary elements, ignited an online debate about respecting traditional dance forms.

Veteran dancer Sudha Chandran expressed her disapproval of the fusion dance, stating that while experimentation is one thing, turning a classical art form into a caricature is unacceptable. Chandran, who identified as a purist, stressed that traditional art forms possess established protocols and that tampering with them can hurt sentiments.

Chandran, however, absolved Ananya Panday of blame, noting that the actor was merely performing steps taught to her. She attributed the controversial portrayal to the choreographers, suggesting they should be more mindful of preserving the integrity of classical dances.

'Chand Mera Dil,' directed by Vivek Soni and produced by Dharma Productions, stars Ananya Panday and Lakshya in lead roles. The film, which explores an intense love story, was released on May 22 and garnered mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike.
