- The film shifts from a satirical spy comedy to a serious patriotic drama.
- Ayushmann Khurrana stars as the amnesiac agent, with notable supporting cast.
A Pakistani ISI sleeper agent named Bilal, portrayed by Ayushmann Khurrana, successfully infiltrates India's Counter Terrorism Squad. However, a sudden accident results in amnesia, causing him to forget his true identity and mission. This premise sets the stage for a refreshing mockumentary-style satire that humorously explores the spy thriller genre.
The film's first half, directed by Aakash Kaushik, maintains an entertaining ambiguity as Bilal navigates his dual personas and memory loss, keeping the audience guessing his true loyalties. The dynamic between Khurrana and Suhail Nayyar provides significant comedic relief, enhanced by the clever use of popular film songs. Mukul Dev also shines as a militant leader with an unusual obsession.
Despite its promising start, the narrative jarringly transitions into a serious patriotic drama, abandoning the unique satirical premise for conventional crowd-pleasing elements. This tonal shift proves detrimental, leading to a monotonous and lengthy second half. While actors like Rahul Bose and Smita Tambe offer comedic chemistry, and veteran actors like Supriya Pilgaonkar are underutilized, the film's initial audacity is lost.
Ayushmann Khurrana once again selects an engaging concept and provides a dedicated performance. However, the film's drastic change in tone and identity ultimately derails its potential as an irreverent spy satire, causing it to play it safe and retreat into predictable territory.
