Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan was left deeply "troubled" after gaining a new understanding of the ethical principles behind veganism during a recent episode of the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
The episode featured a contestant, Siddharth Sharma, who has been following a vegan lifestyle for the past seven years. When Bachchan inquired about Sharma's dietary choices, the contestant explained how veganism avoids the use of any animal-derived products, including meat, dairy, and even cosmetics tested on animals, in order to prevent animal exploitation and reduce harm.
Bachchan, who has followed a largely vegetarian diet for over two decades, was visibly moved by Sharma's explanation. "You have opened my eyes," the veteran actor admitted, adding, "I will go home today and feel troubled about this."
Bachchan's transition to vegetarianism reportedly occurred around the year 2000, as he moved away from the non-vegetarian diet he had consumed earlier in life. According to reports, his current meals typically include a glass of milk and egg bhurji for breakfast, followed by rotis, plain dal, and green vegetables for lunch. For dinner, he often limits himself to soup or keeps the meal extremely light, avoiding rice altogether.
