Amitabh Bachchan Injury: A Second Accident Revealed
12 Oct
Summary
- A stuntman suffered an eye injury requiring stitches before Bachchan's accident.
- Puneet Issar's punch on Amitabh Bachchan's arteries caused the severe injury.
- A fake story about a table mishap was created to protect Issar's debut.

Veteran fight director Pappu Verma has shed light on the 1982 Coolie set accident that critically injured Amitabh Bachchan. Verma disclosed that a less severe incident occurred earlier the same day. A stuntman, Shakti, suffered an eye injury needing stitches after being hit during a fight sequence.
Later, during a solo fight scene between Amitabh Bachchan and debutant Puneet Issar, Issar's punch struck Bachchan directly on his arteries. To safeguard Issar's nascent career, the film's crew devised a cover story, attributing Bachchan's injury to going over a table.
Director Manmohan Desai strictly prohibited any discussion of the actual circumstances surrounding the accident. Following Bachchan's recovery after several months in the hospital, filming resumed with a crucial directive: no more punches to the stomach.
The team reconvened to complete shooting action sequences at a specially constructed set in Chandiwali, ensuring Bachchan's safety after his prolonged recovery period.
