Kips Bay AMC to Close Doors by End of 2026
24 Aug
Summary
- AMC Kips Bay 15 will close by the end of 2026.
- The theater's lease was terminated by the property owner.
- This closure follows a trend of Manhattan East Side theater losses.
The AMC Kips Bay 15, a significant movie theater on Manhattan's East Side, is scheduled to cease operations by the end of 2026. This closure is due to the property owner's decision to terminate the theater's lease ahead of its original expiration date.
The 15-screen venue, which includes an IMAX auditorium, first opened its doors in 1999. AMC assumed management of the location in 2006, making it one of their largest multiplexes in Manhattan.
This impending closure adds to a growing list of movie theaters that have shut down on Manhattan's East Side in recent years. Notable former locations include City Cinemas' 86th Street theater and the Beekman Theatre's Second Ave. venue.
An AMC spokesperson expressed gratitude to the community and patrons for their loyalty and support. Details surrounding the final closure are still being finalized, with a formal announcement expected in the coming months.
