Mallik recently shared intimate details about his personal life through an Instagram Q&A. Responding to a fan's query about the significance of 'Awarapan' and the existence of enduring, unrequited love, Mallik confessed, "It's real, I'm the proof of it." He further elaborated in a subsequent Instagram Story, describing the profound difficulty of loving someone who is present but must be treated as if they are gone.

He revealed a deeply personal struggle, stating, "The hardest relationships are those where you realize the person is alive, yet you must convince yourself she is no longer in this world." Mallik explained that he has been living as if he is a widower, repeatedly telling himself that his loved one is no longer in this world to cope with the suffering. He disclosed that their relationship began in 2016 after knowing each other for ten years, originating from Delhi, but life's circumstances led to their separation, a situation he likened to the movie 'Kabir Singh'.
