An all-women dhaki troupe from Kolkata recently graced Durga Puja celebrations in Jamshedpur, adding a distinctive cultural flair. Organized by the Sonari West Durga Puja Samity, the troupe performed at Road Nos. 5 and 6 in Sonari West layout.
The troupe, led by Bipasha Basu, was invited as part of the 53rd Durga Puja celebration, which embraced the theme of 'Nari Shakti' or women power. They played the traditional dhak instrument during daily rituals and aarti for Goddess Durga, continuing their performances until Vijayadashami.
Comprising college students and homemakers from North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, the troupe views playing the dhak as both a cultural connection and a source of livelihood. Bipasha Basu emphasized that such performances help preserve Bengal's rich cultural heritage and provide recognition for women in this traditional craft.
Their recent performance for the Brazilian football team's visit to Kolkata was highlighted as a significant achievement. Basu, who is pursuing her undergraduate studies, believes her drumming skills will remain an important support in her future endeavors.
