Fifty-five years after its debut, the cast of the groundbreaking sitcom "All in the Family" has forged remarkable careers.
Carroll O'Connor, who embodied the curmudgeonly Archie Bunker, garnered four Primetime Emmy Awards for his performance. He continued his television work with the sequel series "Archie Bunker's Place" and the crime drama "In the Heat of the Night," earning another Emmy. O'Connor's final screen appearance was in the 2000 film "Return to Me," and he passed away in 2001.
Jean Stapleton brought Edith Bunker to life, winning three Emmys and two Golden Globes. She reprised her role in "Archie Bunker's Place" and was nominated for an Emmy as Eleanor Roosevelt in "Eleanor, First Lady of the World." Stapleton also appeared in "Bagdad Cafe" and "Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle" before her passing in 2013.
Sally Struthers, who played Gloria Bunker, also received two Emmy Awards. She later voiced characters in "The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show" and "Dinosaurs," and had a recurring role on "Gilmore Girls." Struthers currently has a role on "A Man on the Inside."
Rob Reiner, as Archie's son-in-law Meathead, earned two Emmys before pivoting to directing. His directorial debut, "This Is Spinal Tap," launched a career that includes "Stand by Me," "The Princess Bride," and "When Harry Met Sally." Reiner also continued acting, with a recent notable role in "The Bear." Tragically, Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, were found deceased in their California home in 2025, with their son arrested in connection with their deaths.
Danielle Brisebois, who played Stephanie in the show's final season and "Archie Bunker's Place," earned a Golden Globe nomination. She later retired from acting to pursue a successful music career as a member of New Radicals and a solo artist, as well as a songwriter for other artists. Brisebois and her husband, Nick Lashley, received an Academy Award nomination for their songwriting.
