Alicia Silverstone and Oliver Hudson Face Midlife Reckoning in Netflix's 'A Merry Little Ex-Mas'

In the upcoming Netflix rom-com 'A Merry Little Ex-Mas', Alicia Silverstone and Oliver Hudson, both 49, portray a divorced couple facing the challenges of midlife and an empty nest. Silverstone's character, Kate, is hoping for one last perfect family Christmas before selling her house, but her holiday plans are hilariously derailed when her ex-husband Everett, played by Hudson, unexpectedly introduces his younger and successful new girlfriend, portrayed by Jameela Jamil.

The film explores the dynamics of the former couple as they navigate this transition in their lives. According to Hudson, the on-screen chemistry between him and Silverstone "was pretty immediate" despite not having met before the project. The two actors took the time to get to know each other better, including during a layover at the airport on their way to Toronto for filming.

In addition to the lead actors, the film also features Pierson Fodé, Melissa Joan Hart, and Hudson's 18-year-old son Wilder, who makes his acting debut playing the son of Hudson's character. Silverstone's 14-year-old son Bear also makes a cameo appearance. The movie, directed by Steve Carr from a script by Holly Hester, is described as a fun Christmas film that also tackles the real-life challenges of separation and the empty nest experience.
