Actor and DJ Ali Merchant recently graced Hyderabad with a performance, a city he affectionately calls his second home. This particular show saw him collaborating with Sunny Leone, where his DJ set complemented her musical performances.
Merchant's connection to Hyderabad is deeply personal, as it's where he met his wife, Andleeb Zaidi. He feels a special affinity for the city's energetic atmosphere and has even drawn inspiration from its local 'marfa' sound. He has successfully blended this traditional sound with contemporary electronic music, creating a unique fusion.
The transition to DJing was a deliberate career move for Merchant, stemming from his extensive background in television. He sought greater creative control and an avenue to connect with audiences on an emotional level, similar to how he felt he could as an actor.
While DJing is his current primary focus, Merchant has not entirely left acting behind. He has completed a film produced by Nawazuddin Siddiqui's brother and remains open to compelling acting roles that move him, indicating a potential return to the screen in the future.
