The character, who last appeared in theaters 24 years ago, narrates the trailer, recounting his two decades away from the public eye. This new "documentary," presented in the spirit of Cohen's former TV show, features real interviews and unsuspecting public figures.

Ed Sheeran reacted to being mentioned by Ali G in the trailer, expressing it as an honor. He shared his excitement on Instagram, referencing the character's signature phrase. This marks the first feature film directed by Cohen himself, as previous Ali G and Borat projects were helmed by others. The production was kept entirely secret, with Cohen reportedly appearing in character at Wimbledon this year without revealing the film's existence.

Despite some positive reactions, the trailer has encountered criticism in the U.K. Concerns have been raised about Ali G's styling, including his dreadlocked wig and Rasta-style hat, being viewed as a racial caricature that has not aged well. Cohen previously established Ali G as a significant figure in British comedy before portraying other characters like Borat and Brüno, and later engaging in dramatic roles.
