Alexis Taylor, a prominent member of the dance band Hot Chip, has released his seventh solo album, "Paris in the Spring." This new work is characterized by its deliberate break from expectations, emphasizing "freedom -- from constraints, from preconceptions, and from genre." The album showcases a wide array of musical styles, moving from introspective balladry to vibrant nu-disco.
Recorded primarily at Nicolas Godin's studio in Paris, the album boasts collaborations with notable musicians, including Godin of Air and Étienne de Crécy. Its ten tracks present a broad spectrum of sounds, from the layered club track "Out of Phase" to the McCartney II-esque "Your Only Life." The eclectic nature extends to "Fainting by Numbers," a New Romantic-style ballad, "mp3s can make you cry" with a country-like feel, and an unconventional electronic cover of the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses."
