Alex Proyas, known for films like I, Robot and The Crow, is set to direct his passion project, Heaven. After a decade since his last film, Proyas is partnering with Ex Machina Studios and K5 International to bring Heaven to the screen. K5 International will handle pre-sales at the upcoming Cannes market.
The film centers on a desperate bureaucrat who seeks refuge in a technologically advanced afterlife. However, this seemingly perfect paradise is revealed to be a meticulously crafted illusion with dire consequences for its inhabitants. Described as a dark satire, Heaven draws inspiration from Terry Gilliam's Brazil.
Ex Machina Studios plans to employ its proprietary AI technology in the production of Heaven. This AI-driven approach aims to create expansive cinematic worlds within a responsible budget, while ensuring the prominence of real actors and human-authored narratives. Principal production work is slated for Los Angeles, with casting discussions currently underway.
Producer Marco Weber, filmmaker Martin Weisz, and Pluto TV co-founder Tom Ryan lead Ex Machina Studios, utilizing technology from Utopai Studios. Proyas expressed his excitement about collaborating with the Ex Machina team, highlighting the opportunity to realize a visually bold and emotionally resonant story. Weber echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the synergy between Proyas' storytelling talent and Ex Machina's advanced production capabilities.
