Alan Titchmarsh Trades Mansion Garden for Rhododendron Paradise

Esteemed gardener Alan Titchmarsh, aged 76, is moving from his £4 million estate after residing there for over two decades. He has decided to downsize his living situation, citing his age and the considerable upkeep required for the sprawling four-acre garden as primary reasons for the move. He expressed that the property, which he and his wife Alison purchased in 2002, has been a labor of love, but he wishes to transition before the grounds become overwhelming.

The couple has found a new, modern home situated on one and a half acres. This move is not only about managing garden size but also about being closer to their daughters and grandchildren. Titchmarsh is particularly excited about the new garden's potential to grow rhododendrons, a type of plant he has not been able to cultivate for more than 50 years. He views this as a new, manageable challenge rather than a winding down.

Their former residence, Manor Farm House in Holybourne, near Alton, Hampshire, has been listed for sale. The Grade-II listed Georgian manor, dating back to 1690, has undergone significant renovations by Titchmarsh. He acknowledges he will miss his current garden but is ready for this new chapter, entrusting the care of his beloved grounds to a new owner.
