Actor Alan Ritchson recently discussed the vital importance of self-love, sharing insights gained amid his divorce from estranged wife Catherine. Ritchson, 43, posted a video on Instagram on Sunday, September 20, highlighting self-love as a potent antidote to the pervasive feelings of inadequacy promoted by modern society and consumer culture.

The 'Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare' star's message follows the joint announcement of his split from Catherine, 37, after 20 years of marriage, shared on September 12. The couple, who are raising three sons, stated they would continue to co-parent and maintain their deep respect for each other.

Court documents obtained on Monday, September 14, revealed that Alan and Catherine had attempted to reconcile. Three months after Alan initially filed for divorce in December 2025, they jointly filed for a "suspension of the proceedings." A judge approved this suspension for six months, allowing the couple to attempt to salvage their marriage.

Reflecting on his upbringing, Ritchson shared how early experiences of receiving attention without effort, coupled with his mother's dismissive remarks, led to feelings of unworthiness. He believes this can perpetuate a cycle of escaping into unhealthy habits and reducing one's own vibrational state.

Ritchson further explained that a lack of self-love can foster negative views of others, leading to the dehumanization of those perceived as 'below' oneself. This creates a 'wicked cycle' of animosity. He concluded by affirming that every individual is 'enough,' regardless of their circumstances, a message he himself needed to hear.
