Oberoi had been signed on to play the role of Mughal prince Murad Bakhsh in the film, which was set to feature a star-studded cast including Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Vicky Kaushal.
Oberoi shared that he was excited about the opportunity to work with Johar as a director and portray a Mughal character, as he felt he had the right look for the part. However, the film's production was halted due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry. Johar also acknowledged the heartbreak of having to shelve the project, stating that he had researched the film for over 2.5 years and had a strong screenplay written by Sumit Roy.
