Akshay Kumar's Secret Wedding Dash on a Motorcycle
24 Aug
Summary
- Akshay Kumar married Twinkle Khanna on his wedding day.
- The actor rushed to his wedding on a makeup artist's motorcycle.
- Twinkle Khanna's film 'Mela' had an impact on the wedding decision.

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna tied the knot on January 17, 2001, in Mumbai, in a private ceremony attended by about 50 guests. The events leading up to their wedding were as dramatic as a film scene. Kumar reportedly made a deal with Khanna: if her film 'Mela' did not perform well at the box office, they would marry soon after.
Following 'Mela's' underperformance, the couple decided to marry. On their wedding day, Kumar was shooting for 'Ek Rishta: The Bond of Love.' He finished his scenes around 7:30 pm and, with surprising haste, borrowed his makeup artist's motorcycle. He donned a helmet and slipped away from the studio unnoticed to reach his own wedding.
Filmmaker Suneel Darshan recalled Kumar's impromptu departure. Darshan, who was present on set, noted that Kumar revealed his wedding plans casually and even invited him. Twinkle Khanna's role in 'Mela' later became a point of contention for Darshan, who felt she was miscast and made "unsavoury" remarks about the film and its director. The couple has since had two children, Aarav and Nitara.
