Akshay Kumar's Loyalty: Tashan's Director Reveals Actor's Support After Flop

Director Vijay Krishna Acharya is looking back at his 2008 film Tashan, a decade after its release. The ambitious movie, featuring Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Anil Kapoor, was positioned as a reinvention of Hindi cinema but struggled at the box office, facing significant criticism.

Acharya recalled the intense backlash, noting how Akshay Kumar stood by him when the industry largely turned away. Kumar publicly and privately supported the film and its director, refusing to distance himself or deflect blame. Acharya stated that Kumar's gesture was particularly meaningful, as the actor treated the film's failure as part of the creative process.

The director also shared that Aditya Chopra was involved in naming the film, highlighting Yash Raj Films' deep involvement. Acharya suggested that Tashan, with its loud, self-aware, and exaggerated style, may have been too experimental for audiences at the time.

While Tashan did not achieve commercial success, Acharya learned valuable lessons about risk and resilience. He emphasized the importance of moving on without bitterness, a trait he observed in Kumar's career. The film has since gained a niche following, with some re-evaluating its unique style and music.
