In November 2025, it was announced that Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar and acclaimed director Anees Bazmee are reuniting for a new project. The two had previously collaborated on hit films like Welcome and Singh Is Kinng, and now they are set to team up again for a reimagined version of the Telugu comedy Sankranthiki Vasthunam.
The new film, which is currently in the writing stage, will retain the core plot of the original about a man caught between his wife and ex-girlfriend, but Bazmee plans to add his signature brand of situational comedy and gags to make it more palatable for Hindi audiences. The project will be produced by Dil Raju and is expected to go on floors in February 2026.
Bazmee is known for his expertise in crafting fresh screenplays based on existing films, and he aims to make this one "bigger and funnier" than the original. The screenplay will be a blend of 60% new sequences and 40% from the Telugu version, ensuring the essence of the plot remains intact while offering a unique cinematic experience for viewers.
