Aja Monet's sophomore album, The Color of Rain, is scheduled for release on May 22. This new collection of work follows their 2023 debut, When the Poems Do What They Do.
The album features a curated selection of guest artists, including Mick Jenkins and Vic Mensa, adding diverse vocal talents to Monet's poetic expressions. Meshell Ndegeocello co-produced the LP and also leads a live band composed of accomplished musicians.
One of the tracks, "Elsewhere," was written in homage to Sly Stone shortly after news of his passing. Monet shared that the song came together spontaneously, with collaborators like Georgia Anne Muldrow and Novena Carmel joining in to create a piece that evokes a sense of shared love and possibility.
Aja Monet is slated to perform at New York's Carnegie Hall on May 20, the week of the album's release.
