Aikman Slams Doc's 'Slanted' Narrative
13 Mar
Summary
- Troy Aikman criticized a documentary for slanting the narrative.
- Aikman alleges sound bites were used out of context.
- Former coach Jimmy Johnson also questioned editorial control.

Troy Aikman, 59, expressed his dissatisfaction with a recent eight-part documentary chronicling Jerry Jones' early tenure as owner of the Dallas Cowboys. Aikman stated on the "Rodeo Time" podcast that Jones, who bought the team in 1989 for $140 million, had editorial rights, allowing him to "slant the narrative in their favor." Aikman cited examples of sound bites being used out of sequence to fit the narrative, including a clip from after a 1994 playoff loss that implied he was joking when he was not.
Aikman also pointed out that a quote about being nervous before his first playoff start was placed before the wrong game, having actually occurred before their first Super Bowl appearance. He described these as "nitpicking" issues but felt they inaccurately reflected his experience. The documentary, which premiered in August 2025, has also drawn similar criticism from former head coach Jimmy Johnson, who commented that the series was "definitely the Jerry Jones Documentary" given Jones' final editorial control.
