- The film faces legal issues with a producer ordered to pay Rs 2.52 crore.

Released in 2014, Soundarya Rajinikanth's directorial debut, Kochadaiiyaan, an ambitious period drama utilizing motion-capture technology, is set to receive an AI-powered upgrade. The film's production house, Eros, recently unveiled a teaser for this enhanced version, which promises more advanced visual effects and greater realism. This initiative revisits the film more than a decade after its initial release.
Kochadaiiyaan, notable as India's first photorealistic motion capture film, featured Rajinikanth in dual roles alongside Deepika Padukone and other prominent actors. Despite its groundbreaking technology, the film garnered a lukewarm reception at the box office and faced criticism for its animation quality. Reviewers frequently drew unfavorable comparisons to films like Avatar (2009).
The newly released 48-second teaser showcases Rajinikanth reprising his dual roles with notably improved graphics, especially in battle sequences, and includes a brief appearance by Deepika Padukone. Director Soundarya Rajinikanth expressed her emotional connection to the project, describing it as a personal journey of evolution.
This resurgence of Kochadaiiyaan's visibility coincides with ongoing legal matters. The Madras High Court has mandated the producer to pay an advertising agency Rs 2.52 crore within four weeks, stemming from a cheque bounce case. Failure to comply could result in a six-month simple imprisonment.
An official announcement regarding the release date of the reimagined Kochadaiiyaan is still pending, though it is anticipated to reach theatres soon.
