Summary
- An AI startup created a film version of "The Odyssey" for minimal cost.
- The AI film "Odysseus: The Fall" streams this summer online.
- It showcases AI's speed in responding to cultural moments.

An AI startup named Fountain O has announced the creation of "Odysseus: The Fall," a 135-minute film based on Homer's epic poem. This AI-generated movie, reportedly costing only a few thousand dollars, is slated for streaming on the company's website later this summer. The film's debut trailer was released on YouTube on July 14, 2026.
This AI initiative is not intended to compete with Christopher Nolan's $250 million film "The Odyssey," which is set to open in theaters on July 17, 2026. Instead, Fountain O aims to showcase emerging AI technology and its capacity to quickly engage with contemporary cultural discussions. While humans penned the script, provided voiceovers, and guided the AI with prompts, all visual elements were created by artificial intelligence.
Fountain O co-founder Ash Koosha, who also directed the film, expressed hope that Nolan's film would be a box office success. He believes their AI version could attract audiences curious to compare human artistry with human-AI collaboration. Koosha, based in London, co-founded Fountain O with his brother Pooya Koosha, who is in Menlo Park and involved with AI infrastructure company Claigrid.
"Odysseus: The Fall" was produced by Tom Rogers, a media executive and co-founder of Claigrid. The AI film follows an audiobook of Homer's work narrated by an AI voice modeled after Michael Caine. Fountain O's previous project, "Dream of Violets," an AI depiction of protests in Iran, debuted at the Tribeca Festival and will be available on their website on Friday. Koosha advocates for the film industry to embrace AI, viewing it as a tool that democratizes storytelling rather than a threat.
