The Museum of the Moving Image and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation have announced the winners of the 2025 Sloan Student Grand Jury Prize and Discovery Prize. Quinn Spicker's feature script "God Makers" and Nora Kaye's "The Head Cases" were selected from a pool of emerging filmmakers.
Spicker's script delves into the battle over ChatGPT and artificial intelligence, centering on academic researcher Helen Toner's confrontation with tech figure Sam Altman. Kaye's winning script, the first from Brooklyn College to receive the Discovery Prize, focuses on two women scientists working to combat Alzheimer's.
Both Spicker and Kaye will receive $20,000, significant industry exposure, and year-round mentorship. They will be honored on April 9 at the Museum of the Moving Image. Established in 2011, the Sloan Student Prizes aim to foster the careers of diverse, emerging storytellers.
