Age of Empires II Definitive Edition Now on Mac

Great news for Mac gamers: Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition has arrived on macOS, bringing a beloved real-time strategy experience to a new platform. This release is a port of the 2019 remaster, which significantly updated the classic game with 4K asset support, improved animations, and a revamped soundtrack.

The Definitive Edition package includes the original Age of Kings expansion, along with three popular recent content packs: Lords of the West, Dynasties of India, and Dawn of the Dukes. All downloadable content available for the Windows version is also supported on macOS, offering extensive replayability.

Developed by Feral Interactive, known for other high-profile Mac ports, this release is a substantial addition to the Mac gaming library. However, there is a notable limitation: the Mac version does not support cross-platform multiplayer, which may be a dealbreaker for some dedicated fans of the game's competitive online scene.

This marks the first Microsoft-published game to receive a macOS release in five years. While not an in-house port, its arrival underscores the growing interest in bringing established PC titles to Apple's hardware, offering a compelling option for strategy game enthusiasts.
