International Emmy-nominated Both Worlds and Atlanta-based Freeli Films have initiated a co-production partnership, announced at the Joburg Film Festival on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Their collaboration will focus on developing and producing premium microdrama series and feature films. Productions are slated for filming in South Africa, across the continent, and in the U.S. The content is designed primarily for South African, African, and American viewers, with global distribution in mind.
Taye Diggs will star in the initial co-productions, acting alongside established South African and African performers. Freeli Films, founded by CEO J. Carter, prioritizes centering Black stories and talent. Both Worlds contributes nearly three decades of production experience and deep ties to African storytelling. Their joint ventures will be part of Amazi, Both Worlds' new content brand for short-form vertical content aimed at African audiences.
The Amazi banner will feature hyperlocal African series in local languages and premium English-language co-productions. Distribution strategies involve partnerships with mobile operators to reach over a billion mobile viewers across Africa, a key growth market for microdrama. This partnership marks the first of several international agreements Both Worlds plans under Amazi, building a diverse global slate alongside its African-language originals.
