Europe's Largest Adult Romance Bookshop Opens Doors

Europe's largest bookshop dedicated to adult romance novels has opened in Leamington Spa. Named The Spicy Librarian, it features more than 2,500 titles, with a focus on diverse romance sub-genres like 'spicy romantasy' and 'dark romance'.

The founder, identified only as D, was inspired by her experiences in independent American romance bookstores. She aims to create a welcoming environment where customers feel at home.

The store plans to host regular events such as monthly book clubs, community nights, and an indie author subscription club. These initiatives aim to build a strong community around the store.

Team member Ali Maynard-James highlighted that the selection differs significantly from traditional romance, featuring layered female characters who drive the narrative. Indie author J Rose expressed gratitude for the platform, noting the importance of such spaces for independent writers.

Romance novelist Florence Keeling also commented on the genre's growing popularity, emphasizing readers' increasing confidence in embracing 'spicy' themes and stories with empowered female protagonists.
