Actress Mistook Husband for Gay Before Falling in Love

In October 2025, actress Margot Preston recalled the early days of her relationship with her husband, Lost star Michael Emerson. When they first met during a production of Hamlet, Preston admitted she thought Emerson was gay due to his polished, well-dressed appearance. However, her brother, fellow actor John G. Preston, eventually told her that Emerson was actually interested in her romantically.

After their conversation, Preston became "shy" around Emerson, but he reciprocated her feelings, bringing her flowers and inviting her to a party. Within a month, Preston was calling her mother, saying she had found the man she was going to marry. The couple tied the knot in 1998 and recently celebrated 27 years of marriage.

Despite their busy schedules as television stars, Preston and Emerson have found ways to keep their relationship fresh. They appreciate the time they have together, as Preston notes that the distance "keeps things fresh" in their relationship.
