Actress Married to Royal Speaks Out Against the Pressures of Fame

In a recent interview, British actress Sophie Winkleman, who married into the royal family in 2009, has revealed her candid views on the challenges of royal life. Winkleman, who is married to Lord Frederick Windsor, the son of Prince Michael of Kent, Queen Elizabeth's first cousin, has expressed her sympathy for the senior royals, stating that their lives are "total hell" and the "level of unasked-for fame is a form of torture."

Winkleman, who has appeared in shows like Peep Show and Two and a Half Men, explained that the royals have no choice in the matter, as they did not seek out the "blinding spotlight" that has been thrust upon them since birth. She lamented the constant scrutiny they face, with "people writing lies about you the whole time," and the difficulty in knowing whom they can trust.

Despite her marriage to a royal, Winkleman admitted that she "didn't know anyone" at her own wedding, as it was "full of faces [she'd] never seen before." However, she maintains that she is a "big fan" of her husband's family, describing them as "very sweet."
