Actor Vivek Sinha has issued a statement defending his role as hijacker Zahoor Mistry in the film Dhurandhar. The actor has been subjected to significant backlash, with comments intensifying after the trailer for Dhurandhar 2 evoked memories of the 1999 IC814 Kandahar hijack.
In a video posted on social media, Sinha directly addressed trolls and criticism, stating, "My name is Vivek Sinha and I am not a terrorist." He clarified that he is from Dhampur in Bijnor and resides in Mumbai, emphatically denying any Pakistani affiliation. He expressed appreciation for the viewers' strong sense of patriotism.
Sinha's character, Zahoor Mistry, is shown issuing an open challenge to Indian authorities in the trailer. The actor also shared his amusement at receiving abusive comments alongside praise for his performance, saying he appreciates the love. He concluded by encouraging audiences to watch Dhurandhar: The Revenge in theaters on March 19.
Dhurandhar 2, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on March 19. Paid previews for the film are set to commence on March 18.
