Kino Lorber has secured North American distribution rights for the critically acclaimed documentary, "A Fox Under a Pink Moon." This film chronicles the compelling journey of Soraya, a talented young sculptor of Afghan heritage born in Iran but left stateless. She navigates an escape from a violent marriage while seeking to reunite with her mother in Europe.
The documentary is a deeply personal self-portrait, skillfully interweaving years of Soraya's own cell phone footage and video calls with filmmaker Mehrdad Oskouei. It also incorporates her striking illustrations and sculptures, many featuring recurring symbols like a pink moon and a fox companion.
Director Mehrdad Oskouei aimed to address the underrepresentation of Afghan refugee women's stories. Soraya Akhlaghi, co-director and protagonist, expressed pride in giving voice to courageous Afghan girls. The film, an Oskouei Films production, also features David Borenstein as an executive producer.
"A Fox Under a Pink Moon" previously garnered top prizes at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and has been honored at festivals worldwide. Kino Lorber plans a theatrical release later in 2026, followed by digital, educational, and home video distribution.
