In a recent interview, acclaimed filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos has revealed his mixed feelings about the promotional aspects that come with commercial success. Despite being a regular face on the awards circuit, Lanthimos admits that he does not enjoy the process of going "around like a freak, parading around the world" to explain his films.
Lanthimos notes that after spending six months shooting a film and six months editing, there is then another six months dedicated to promotional tours, which he finds frustrating. "And it's not my passion to go around being a photographed and telling people stuff," he says. The director even jokes that he could use AI to create an "avatar" to send out to interviews in his place.
Lanthimos also discusses his filmmaking process with actors, revealing that he sometimes annoys his "Bugonia" co-star Emma Stone by mimicking her bad takes on set. "I only mimic her bad takes," he says with a chuckle. "I'm like, you said it like this...and she's like ok, you don't have to do the impression! But that annoys her very much."

Despite his dislike for the promotional aspects of filmmaking, Lanthimos acknowledges the importance of commercial success, saying, "I want it to happen, but I don't it to happen the way it happens." He wants people to watch his films and make their money back, but he wishes there was "another way" to achieve this without the constant interviews and red carpet events.
