Acclaimed Director Anurag Kashyap Retreats from Spotlight Amid Industry Pressures

As of September 30th, 2025, acclaimed Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has been distancing himself from the industry, citing a growing disillusionment with the state of new-age marketing tactics and a shift away from genuine conversations about cinema.

In an exclusive interview last month, Kashyap expressed his frustration with the prevalence of clickbait headlines and the way they can create a distorted perception of him. He also lamented how people often take his comments out of context and turn them into specific news articles, driven by a belief that "negativity sells."

This environment has become suffocating for the director, known for his honesty. Kashyap mentioned how, over time, even his own industry contacts began avoiding him, leading to a sense of isolation. "There's no point in having a conversation, and that's why I stepped away," he said.

The filmmaker also revealed that he had lost friends and connections, as the focus shifted away from cinema and towards discussions about money and box office performance. "I didn't want to be part of it," he stated firmly.

Now, Kashyap is focused on finding ways to block out the triggers of his anger, which in the past had even led to physical altercations. His priority is to reconnect with what he truly loves: the art of filmmaking, as well as the solace of his home, books, and movies.
