The film, which is being produced for release in theaters, tells the true story of U.S. Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman and his heroic fight to the death to save his fellow soldiers during the 2002 Battle of Takur Ghar in Afghanistan. Years later, an intelligence officer works to prove Chapman's valor, leading an investigation that would ultimately secure him the Medal of Honor.
Gilpin, a three-time Emmy nominee, two-time SAG Award nominee, and three-time Critics Choice nominee, is currently starring in the Netflix limited series Death by Lightning, chronicling the life, death, and presidency of James A. Garfield. She has also appeared in the independent series Hal & Harper and is set to co-star with Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein in the upcoming Netflix rom-com Office Romance.
The production of Alone at Dawn falls under Amazon MGM's newly renewed first-look deal with Brian Grazer and Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment. The film's script was originally written by Michael Russell Gunn, with revisions by Erin Cressida Wilson and Amy Herzog.
