In an upcoming series, acclaimed actors will bring the legendary rivalry between composers Mozart and Salieri to life. The White Lotus star will portray the mischievous musical genius Mozart, while WandaVision's Paul Bettany will play the envious court composer Salieri. Gabrielle Creevy (In My Skin) will also star as Constanze Weber, Mozart's fiercely loyal wife.
The series, a reimagining of Peter Shaffer's award-winning stage play Amadeus, promises a lavish production. Trailers hint at a visually stunning depiction, with Sharpe's Mozart bounding through a stately home and reaching for a chandelier. Bettany's Salieri, however, seems less than impressed, describing Mozart as a "repulsive creature" who plays "so exquisitely."
The series will expand on the mythic rivalry between the two composers, with Salieri's envy turning vengeful as he uses any means necessary to thwart Mozart's success and protect his own position in the establishment. Amadeus is produced by Two Cities Television in association with Sky Studios and is set to premiere in the coming months.
