Abingdon Airshow Axes Flying Displays Amid Rising Costs
22 Feb
Summary
- Annual airshow cancelled flying display program due to rising costs.
- Show organizers cited aircraft, insurance, and road closure expenses.
- Civilian aircraft and helicopters will land for static viewing after absence.

The Abingdon Air and Country Show, scheduled for June 13, 2026, will not feature its traditional flying display program this year. Organizers announced this difficult decision was made due to the increasing expenses associated with aircraft operation, insurance, and necessary road closures. This marks the first cancellation of the flying displays in the show's more than 20-year history. The move aims to maintain the show's financial viability by adhering to a smaller budget. The event will be relocated to the west side of Abingdon Airfield, improving accessibility for attendees.
Despite the absence of aerial performances, the show will still offer attractions for aviation enthusiasts. After a two-year hiatus, civilian aircraft and helicopters are permitted to land and be viewed up close. These will be complemented by a limited number of military aircraft on the ground. Additionally, there will be a series of predominantly military flypasts throughout the day, providing a taste of aerial action. This change comes after the 2025 show was grounded just days before its planned commencement.
