The four members of the legendary Swedish group ABBA have jointly announced the passing of their cherished manager, Görel Hanser. She died on Saturday, June 13th, at the age of 76.
Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad expressed their deep sorrow, stating, "We have lost our most loved friend and closest colleague. The loss is immeasurable."
Hanser, born Görel Johnsen in 1949, joined Stig Anderson's Sweden Music and Polar Music in September 1969. She quickly advanced from secretary to Vice President of Polar Music, playing a pivotal role.
During ABBA's active years, Hanser managed their international dealings and served as their personal manager and companion on tours. The band even dedicated their 1979 song "Sång Till Görel" to her.
Following ABBA's disbandment in 1982, Hanser established her own company, Music & Artist Service Görel Hanser. Through this venture, she continued to manage all ABBA-related business for Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, as well as overseeing their musical projects such as "Chess" and "Mamma Mia!".
In recognition of her significant contributions to the music industry, particularly her work with Stig Anderson and ABBA, Görel Hanser was honored with a Swedish Grammis Award in 2018. She is survived by her husband, Anders Hanser, and their two children.
