Aaron Tveit's Final Bow: Christian Returns to Moulin Rouge

Aaron Tveit has returned to the Al Hirschfeld Theatre for his third and final limited engagement as Christian in Moulin Rouge! The Musical. His current run began on Tuesday, August 18th, and marks his last opportunity to perform the role before the show's Broadway production closes on Sunday, August 30th. Tveit, who originated the role in 2019 and won a Tony Award for it, is performing opposite Kelsie Watts, who joined the cast as Satine earlier this summer. Their August 18th performance was their first time starring together.

The actor's involvement with the musical began with its pre-Broadway premiere in 2018. Tveit continued with the production through its Broadway opening in 2019, a COVID-19 shutdown, and subsequent reopening. This latest 12-day engagement represents the culmination of his nearly decade-long relationship with the character. Following this final stint, Christian Douglas will perform as Christian for the musical's ultimate Broadway performance.

Based on Baz Luhrmann's 2001 film, Moulin Rouge! The Musical has captivated audiences since its Broadway debut on July 25, 2019. The jukebox musical, directed by Alex Timbers, features a book by John Logan and incorporates over 70 pop songs. It garnered 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, at the 2021 ceremony. The production's seven-year run at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, encompassing an 18-month pandemic shutdown, will conclude after more than seven years.
