Aamir Khan: Car Cost Him Director Dream?
11 Mar
Summary
- Aamir Khan wanted to be an assistant director.
- Satish Kaushik denied him due to car ownership.
- Kapur believes rejection helped Aamir become an actor.

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur recently recounted an amusing incident from Aamir Khan's early days in the film industry. Khan had expressed interest in working as an assistant director, a role he approached Kapur about.
However, Satish Kaushik, who was serving as the first assistant director at the time, allegedly denied Khan the opportunity. Kapur explained that Kaushik's reasoning was peculiar: he felt that since he did not own a car, but Khan did, it would be inappropriate for Khan to join the team. Kapur emphasized that the decision was Kaushik's, not his own.
Reflecting on the event years later, Kapur humorously speculated that being turned down might have been a blessing in disguise for Khan. He noted that assistant directors rarely achieve stardom, suggesting the rejection inadvertently steered Khan towards his highly successful acting career. Aamir Khan went on to become a major star, while Satish Kaushik and Shekhar Kapur also achieved significant recognition in their respective fields.
