Anurag Kashyap and Vasan Bala are presenting "Aakhri Ride," a new short thriller premiering globally on October 31. This cinematic offering is set over a single Halloween night in Mumbai and will be available on Oh Short Flips, a YouTube channel curated by Kashyap.
Vijesh Rajan and Yashoda Parthasarthy wrote and directed the film, their debut. "Aakhri Ride" centers on a Mumbai ride-share driver whose life unravels during a single frightening night. Kashyap expressed confidence in the directors' storytelling and visual style, having known them since "Gangs of Wasseypur" and eagerly anticipating the audience's reaction.
The film's concept originated from observing the disconnect between passengers and drivers during late-night commutes. Rajan and Parthasarthy aimed to examine this social divide through a blend of horror and comedy, hoping to evoke laughter, fright, and reflection among viewers about the lives of those driving them.
"Aakhri Ride" has already garnered recognition, starting its festival run at Clermont-Ferrand and securing selections at genre events like BIFAN and Fantastic Fest. It won the Silver Audience Award for best Asian short at Fantasia and received best film at the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival.
