Biel revealed that the new series aims to tackle modern issues facing teenagers and families, including technology, bullying, drugs, and alcohol, in a way that the original show could not due to limitations.

While the reboot will be geared towards a contemporary audience and reportedly feature a diverse family, Biel emphasized that it will maintain the original's family-viewing appeal. She will not be reprising her role as Mary Camden but is focused on creating a supportive environment for the creative team. Anthony Sparks is attached as executive producer and showrunner for the series, which Variety reported last year would not include any original cast members.
